Richmond, VA

CarMax relocated their corporate headquarters to expand to meet the demands of the rapidly growing company. They wanted a state-of-the-art facility to use technology to improve their business and increase efficiency. CarMax believes strongly in the effective use of modern technology and sees it as a competitive advantage.

Designed as the sustainable alternative to the suburban office building, CarMax was awarded LEED Silver Certification by the UGSBC. The headquarters consume less energy by relying on sunlight incorporated recycled materials in construction. Everything, from the land to the workstations, was chosen with the comfort of occupants and energy efficiency in mind. Technology works silently in the background supporting the daily activities of the workforce.

The first phase of the campus includes 220,000 SF of office, server room, technology labs, and conference facilities. In addition, there is a parking deck and fitness center. The building’s unique architectural features required a creative approach to the physical IT infrastructure design. EDI worked closely with the owner, architect, and project team to design solutions to meet the aesthetic and functional requirements.
