The role of an effective project manager is critical to the outcome of any successful project. Project managers must plan, execute and finalize projects all within strict deadlines and within budget. The same holds true for managing technology systems. Whether it’s a new hospital filled with technology, a security system replacement, or a relocation of a data center, all projects need to be properly managed from the top down in all aspects. IT project management is the process of planning, organizing and delineating responsibility for the completion of an organizations’ specific information technology (IT) goals.
A proper design involves much more than just locating devices on a plan. It involves understanding the workflow of who will be using the systems, what devices will be reused or moved, how the system(s) will be used, who will be using it, how it will be installed (and by when and by whom). These are lot of questions which must be thoroughly vetted out and understood by all parties in order to provide a successful project outcome.
Since 1986, EDI has been designing telecommunications systems for a variety of client types and facilities. Through these years of designing, we have learned that designing the telecommunication systems is only the tip of the iceberg for implementing a successful project.
- Do Scope Gaps existing in the Low Voltage drawings?
- Has the hospital made strategic IT decisions for current and future projects?
- Is the in-house IT group able to focus on their daily job during the project? Do they have an advocate on the project team?
- Are your critical technology/low voltage systems installed to the design/project intent?
- Is someone leading your technology procurement process?
As a recognized need from our clients, EDI can provide complete Technology Program Management (TPM) services. While some of the aspects of this service are generally provided as part of our basic services, we have determined many of our clients need a more comprehensive program management approach due to their staff either being overburdened or inexperience in the overall project process. These services are more comprehensive than our standard services throughout the Planning, Design, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning phases of the project.
We provide leadership in overall technology project development and construction management. We act as a Technology “Construction Manager” and provide services that include managing the owner, design team, and construction team in relation to time, cost, scope, and quality as related to the technology systems.
